Olga Buneeva is a visual Russian-Italian artist based between Milan, and Pergola, Italy. She commenced her career as a philologist, which has profoundly influenced her artistic exploration, rooted in family narratives and collective memories. Her work delves into themes such as oppression, war, devastation, ecology, and radiation, while exploring the phenomenon of cryptomnesia. Buneeva perceives human memory as both a profound repository and a cunning distorter of truth. Cryptomnesia, the distortion of memories, blurs the line between personal experience and inherited narratives, sometimes unwittingly leading to plagiarism. She deliberately employs cryptomnesia as a method, immersing herself in research, conversations, and memory collection to blend collective recollections with her own until they integrate into her unconscious. The subsequent step involves creation through the automatism method, wherein her unconscious drives manual artistic expression. This process, akin to performance, involves meditative immersion, resulting in one-act stage-like compositions. Buneeva works across various mediums, including painting, sculpture, textiles, and digital art, with a particular focus on her ceramic project since graduating from the Brera Fine Art Academy in 2019. While commencing with classical forms, she has developed a distinctive style and technique. She exclusively employs the coiling technique, thus rendering each of her creations unique, characterised by irregular shapes inspired by nature, human body, and the realm of imagination. Her works convey a sense of movement and vibrant energy.
